Activities

Normally we only provide boarding and lodging and do not offer/manage any activity/ itinerary/package.  However on special request, we can design and manage activity packages which shall be customised in consultation with the traveller.

Our activities can be classified into the following categories, travellers can choose from

1. River Cruise An exciting boat journey in the estuary and/or the small backwater canals which meet the sea, is an essential part of all packages.

2. Art/Craft Traditional performing (both the folk and classical) arts and craft works of Kerala are unique and famous for its highly refined forms and artistic values and have attracted global interest since many decades. But unfortunately, due to varieties of reasons, many of these art/craft forms are facing a decline in popularity, quality and appreciation. Interestingly there are few community initiatives in reviving/conserving these traditional systems. Besides, many tourists have expressed their desire/preference to view/experience these art/craft forms in its natural setup/context/ambience as opposed to viewing them in hotels/beaches/houseboats as is done by tourism industry. Hence this package will provide an opportunity for the traveller to experience, observe and/or participate in community/institutional efforts to revive these art/craft forms. Live performance with lecture demonstration will be the main highlight.

3. Nature Conservation Since the main principle of KNH is to live in harmony with nature, conservation of nature is one of our major activities. In addition to the conservation initiatives of KNH, there are many initiatives by conservation enthusiasts in the region such as organic farming, conservation of sacred groves, and welfare of captive elephants. The major objectives of these initiatives are to demonstrate the need for conserving nature and inculcate an attitude of nature conservation. Travellers can visit these activities, and if interested, they can also participate in some of the activities to get the real experience. There will be lecture demonstration on these activities as well.

4. Wellness Deteriorating community health is a major problem. This is the result of abandoning the traditional lifestyles, eating habits and health care practices on one hand and adopting unsustainable lifestyles, use of chemical pesticides in agriculture, introduction of fast food and modern medicine on the other. There are lots of civil society initiatives in the form of campaigns against these trends and awareness/demonstration camps for adopting sustainable lifestyles, food habits and traditional health care systems including Naturopathy, Ayurveda and Yoga. Travellers can participate in these initiatives and get introduction to the sustainable living systems.

5. Culture/Tradition/Heritage KNH is located and operates in the Valluvanad Region spread in the valley of River Nila and its tributaries covering Malappuram District and western half of Palakkad District of Kerala, South India. The region has a very rich cultural heritage. This is the land of temple festivals, elephants, birth place of most of unique classical & folk arts of Kerala. This package takes you to few most representative cultural symbols of Valluvanad and will also show any festivals/rituals that take place at the time of the visit of the guest. Alternatively a cultural night may be organized by the local village community.
